As I am writing this, there is construction going on outside my house. It is loud, annoying, and extremely inconvenient. The neighbors and I are forced to park our cars 2-3 blocks away from our homes. I don’t mind the walk, but I don’t like walking in the dark from my car to my house after work.
Today’s Selah Saturday song is a fun one that I’m sure will get stuck in your head for a while. It may even bring you back to your Sunday school days! Yes, it’s a children’s song, but that doesn’t mean it’s only intended for children.
In the story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, we see a crowd of his followers lined up in the streets. They are praising Jesus and shouting, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” (Matthew 21:9). We now recognize this day as Palm Sunday. Not too long after that joyous celebration we see another crowd.

Happy belated St. Patrick’s Day everyone! In honor of St. Patrick, I would like to share a song that has been put to the words of a famous poem attributed to the patron saint of Ireland called “St. Patrick’s Breastplate.”
This past Monday marked the 110th anniversary of International Women’s Day. Since the Women’s Liberation Movement in the early 1900s, March 8th has been set aside as a time to commemorate the achievements of women and their fight for gender parity. Since March has also been designated as Women’s History Month, I wanted to share with you all a beautiful song inspired by the life of Mary Magdalene.
From doing the 10,000 Blessings Challenge over the years, I have learned how to find joy in the simplicity of life. Whether it’s the sound of a baby’s laugh, the smell of freshly cut grass, or the taste of vanilla ice cream, I have discovered that the most beautiful things this world has to offer are often the simplest.
For the next few weeks at church, we will be talking about suffering and why suffering as a Christian can be a good thing. Being the musical person that I am, I thought today would be a great day to discuss three relationships between singing and suffering that we find throughout the Bible. (Full disclosure, I got these points from a sermon by John Piper on the Word and suffering.)
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, so of course today we are talking about love! Finding the perfect song was no easy task, as there are millions of love songs out there to choose from. I wanted to find one about how deep God’s love is for us. Now, I could’ve picked a classic hymn like “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us,” or “O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus.” But then, in my search for the perfect song, I was reminded of this real tearjerker I heard years ago. And no, it’s not “Walking Her Home” by Mark Schultz (*tears* gets me every time!).
How do you feel about snow? In general, it seems like people have quite mixed feelings about this cold precipitation. Some people love snow while others dread it. Personally, I enjoy how beautiful the snow looks, but I hate the cleanup and inconveniences that come with it. And boy did we have quite a mess to clean up here in NJ this week!
