Ancient of Days
By CityAlight
“None above Him, none before Him, all of time in His hands. For His throne, it shall remain and ever stand. All the power, all the glory, I will trust in His name. For my God is the Ancient of Days.”
It is no surprise that this year’s presidential election has added to the stresses and anxieties of millions of Americans this year. I think Pastor George is the only one of my friends who was actually excited for Election Day.
We all know that no matter who wins, not everyone is going to be happy. There are going to be many people who will be upset by the results. During this time, it is important to remember what Pastor George has taught us these past few weeks about loving our neighbors, not making an idol out of politics, and not reflecting the attitudes of the world but rather those of Christ.
We belong to the Kingdom of God and are therefore Christ’s ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20). The other day I listened to a lesson by Pastor Paul David Tripp on what it means to be Christ’s ambassadors. He reminds us that, “The job of an ambassador is to be a visible representation of a king that can’t be seen.” Because we are Christ’s ambassadors, we must be the visible representation of Christ in that we must love as he loved, live as he lived, and serve as he served (1 John 2:6).
Another thing that is important to remember is that Jesus is King. His kingdom will stand forever, it will never fail. The presidents and kings of this world are temporary but Christ reigns forever.
In the book of Daniel, chapter 7, Daniel had a dream in which he referred to God as the “Ancient of Days.” God is the first and the last (Isaiah 44:6), he is God “from everlasting to everlasting” (Psalm 90:2). God was God before the world came into existence and our concept of time began. Pastor Ian (my youth group pastor) always says that the only two things that will last forever are the word of God and people. Isaiah reminds us of this when he says, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8). Jesus also told us that, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35).
“Ancient of Days,” by CityAlight, reminds us of God’s authority, rule, and power over all things and that we can trust in him because of this. We need not fear the darkness that surrounds us, nor what the future may bring, because God’s got us. He has been to the unknown and back and knows what lies ahead, and he has a plan for everything.
As we eagerly await the results of the 2020 Presidential Election, let us remember that God’s kingdom reigns supreme over all earthly nations and kingdoms. May we also be good ambassadors of Christ so that others may come to know the peace and justice that comes from being a part of the Kingdom of God.
Nations will rage,
kingdoms will rise and kingdoms will fall,
but God, being the Ancient of Days,
always remains
and has authority over all.
“Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the holy people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.” Daniel 7:27
