I Want to Know You

By Sonicflood

I want to know You, I want to hear Your voice, I want to know You more.
I want to touch You, I want to see Your face, I want to know You more.

Have you ever had a conversation with someone you’ve never met before and walked away feeling like God was using that person to speak to you in some way? I had that happen to me recently. This person I had just met one day openly shared with me his testimony and an encounter with God that he had the week before. Long story short, this encounter left with him with a hunger for God’s Word and a desire to love Jesus more.

On my way home from that meeting, I was listening to a Spotify playlist, and I felt like every song that came on related back to the testimony I had just heard. They were all about knowing God and needing God. I felt convicted. I knew that I had been neglecting my relationship with the Lord. Through all the hustle and bustle of life, I knew that I had not prioritizing time out of my busy day to spend time with God in prayer or through reading the Bible. But after hearing that person’s story, and after listening to those songs, I felt convicted of my lack of desire to be in a close, intimate relationship with God.

It was then that I, too, felt a hunger for God’s Word and a desire to love Jesus more.

One of the songs I first thought of that relate to knowing God is “I Want to Know You” by Sonicflood. The only way we can get to know Jesus and experience a personal relationship with him is to actually spend time with him. Conversing with God through prayer and getting to know him through reading the Bible are just two of the ways we can do this.

Your best friend is someone that you always want to be around, talk to, confide in, and love. So it should be with Jesus. Jesus is the bestest friend you could ever have. Unlike any other friend, with Jesus there is no doubt that he will never leave you nor forsake you, that he will care for you when you’re at your worst and humble you when you’re at your best. He will love you with an unconditional love that reaches higher than the mountains, deeper than the oceans, and farther than the sky. How could you not want to be in a relationship with someone like that?

I pray that the Holy Spirit also stirs in you the desire to want to know and love God more. Spend time in communion with your heavenly Father and your best friend, Jesus, through prayer and the reading of his Word. The relationship you have with God is the most important relationship you will ever have.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
Psalm 42:1-2

As Pastor George did with his Theologs, I am taking a page out of his book and will be writing less Selah Saturdays from here on out. We hope to soon resume our usual praise time during church services, and we are considering returning to choir in the fall. Selah Saturday was meant to supplement the lack of music we were able to provide to you over the past year. Now that we are reopening, however, I will need the time to focus more on music. I look forward to worshiping with you all as we move forward and return to some form of normalcy.
